I have always painted, mostly as a hobby. You can see some of my artwork here. I have always had a keen interest in military history and have thought of how great it would be to be able to paint historical events for a living. Getting to travel and explore battlefields and historical sites, meeting new people, and doing something that I am passionate about. Well, using the knowledge I have accumulated through my jobs in the art field, I figured with the time is right to make the big move.
I have always had an interest in the Civil War. Growing up as a teen in Virginia, one is never far away from reminders of the conflict of over a 150 years ago, with plenty of museums and plenty battlefields no more that a 2 hours drive away. Most of the Civil War Art I hope to produce will depict an event, however small, that I feel would make for an interesting painting. Sort of like illustrating a part of a book. The main part of my research would come from reading personal recollections of participants, written at the time of the key battles during the Civil War.
I would like to remind readers that I am in the beginning stages of hopefully a long and fulfilling career as a Civil War artist, so I don’t have much to showcase at the present. In the meantime, I would love for visitors to follow my progression on my blog page. This website is sort of like a journal that will track my progression as an artist. The blog will keep a record of whenever I come up with a new subject matter for my art, or the progress of a new painting, or whenever I visit historical sites. Not only will the blog cover the actual process of my oil painting, but also the preliminaries such as coming up with ideas, researching the subject matter, and how to best illustrate an event. One of my goals for this site is to provide a visual progress of a painting, from rough ideas and sketches to the various stages of the wet work and then on to final completion.
Again, thank you for visiting my site.
