Update on the Battle of Chaffin’s Farm painting

After taking a break for a little while, I have nearly completed the painting of the Battle of Chaffin’s Farm, showing First Sergeant Robert Pinn of the 27th Ohio Volunteer Infantry rallying his men against the Confederate breastworks. This action (also know as the Battle of New Market Heights) occurred on September 29, 1864 during the siege of Petersburg near Richmond, Va.

The painting shows Sergeant Pinn pointing towards the enemy, his head turned facing his fellow soldiers of the 5th United States Colored Troop (USCT), Infantry Regiment (also known as the 127th Ohio Volunteer Infantry), encouraging them to attack the enemy position.
